Resume Builder Lite
If you cannot handle the monster post (close to 3,000 words) that I wrote, then you may just want to look at this bullet point resume builder. It has the bare bones of what you need. Before you begin, you will need to open either: Template 1 | Template 2. Then, open the example of a finished resume here.
Mostly, you will just simply fill in necessary information in the template provided above. However, here are some guidelines below.
- Make sure you have a professional email address, and not your email address from high school. For instance, iluvbobaforever@hotmail.com is not a professional address. Go create one that looks better on resume.
- List all relevant educational information in reverse-chronological order.
- List GPA and any honors if employer requires it, or if you want to anyways.
- List any relevant jobs (for position) that you have done in the past 10 years max.
- If you did a job more than 10 years ago that is important for position, list that as well.
- Only list 4-5 jobs, unless you have a ton of relevant job information to add.
- Resume should be ideally 1 page, 2 pages at most. Do not make a second page unless you really need it!
- List work experience concisely and effectively.
- Use strong adjectives/adverbs such as “extensive”, “above”, “extremely” to signify to employer what areas you are exceptionally strong in.
- Highlight areas of work experience that are most relevant to position you are applying for. For instance, if you are applying to be a manager, list roles and responsibilities that best emphasize your ability to manage effectively.
- List any technical skills you have (such as Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.).
- Make sure you write your type speed if you are applying for a job that uses computer.
- Make sure to list some things that you are interested in so that you appear human and not robotic.
- Email your resume to a couple people you trust with stuff like this and ask them to look it over. Listen to their constructive criticism and polish your resume.
- Send out your resume to potential employers and get a job!
